Matthew K. Bishop has lived in southern Illinois for most of his life and currently resides in Carbondale,IL with his wife, Laura, and their three daughters. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Music in Music Education. He began his professional career teaching in public schools and then at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. While at SIU, Matt was director of the Marching Salukis, the Saluki Pep Band, and taught classes for the School of Music. On March 18, 1999, Matt and Laura’s home caught fire and was declared a complete loss. Dealing with the loss of his home and all his belongings caused him to understand the importance of insurance and prompted him to switch careers.
Matt’s insurance career began with COUNTRY Insurance and Financial Services. Making sure that his clients were properly insured became his mission. To find clients the best possible coverage AND price, Matt switched focus and became an Independent Insurance Agent. In May 2005, he became co-owner of an Independent Insurance Agency in Murphysboro, IL. During his tenure as an independent insurance agent, Matt has received many awards for production and sales. In June 2021 Matt fulfilled a lifelong goal to open his own agency,
Bishop Insurance Group, located in Carbondale, IL.
Matt is well-known in the Carbondale community and is active with several organizations, including the Southern Illinois Down Syndrome Group, Marching Salukis Alumni Band, John A Logan Community Band, and serves on the Board of Trustees for First United Methodist Church Carbondale as well as an Agency Advisory Committee for Madison Mutual Insurance.
When he is not attending music or theatrical events for his children, he enjoys exercising, reading and working in the yard. Matthew Bishop is licensed in IL & MO to produce the following: Fire & Casualty, Life & Health.
